A Visit with Santa

Today was the first time that Zach and Nicole have seen Santa. I know, I know, we're bad parents. We're not close to a mall, our church parties use wise men instead (recently anyway), and our grocery store was scheduled on days we couldn't go. Jonathan hitched a ride last year. So this was Zach's and Nicole's first time. All three kids were bouncing off the walls beforehand. The picture above is precious. Nicole looks so tiny and awed. (Not odd.)

Nicole was a little bashful. She asked for a baby toy. (Baby? Toy?)

Zachary was just plain happy. He asked for a Lego City set. (I hope he's flexible.)

Jonathan read the school note to me about ten times this morning. I have it memorized. -Really? Santa will be at Clarks today? Maybe you should read it again to make sure.- Jonathan asked for a Lego Batman set. (Contrary to what he wrote in his letter to Santa last week.)

What is wrong with this picture? Nobody is crying and everyone is smiling! I'm sad Greg couldn't be there - he had a high fever so I stayed home with him. Yes, my reporting is all secondhand. Thanks to Ben for being a great dad and photographer! Maybe one of these years I'll get to see Santa too.
Today we committed to letting the kids buy gifts for each other at the dollar store, with their own money. It's all about the giving, not the receiving. I hope I survive that shopping trip. Merry Christmas!!!

Our bishop mentioned at the ward Christmas party that Santa is a symbol of Christ and that receiving gifts from Santa is symbolic of receiving gifts from Christ who already knows what we want and need. I thought it was a nice tie-in, anyway.

Oh- so I think receiving is just as important as giving. My MIL disagrees which I guess is why she's so terrible at accepting gifts with grace. She probably doesn't think about how that makes the givers feel.

I'm so glad you finally let your kids out of the basement and let them experience things like sunlight, television, and Santa. ;)

I've heard the same thing about Santa. But hey, wise men are cool too! I'm glad they got to go and that Greg's over his fever and has super cute teeth to show for it! I'm glad Nicole is not odd but awed. And don't you love it when they change what they want a couple days before Christmas?!?!?
