Give Me 5!

Happy Birthday, Zachary!

He's the big 5 now.  He waited patiently all day to open his presents.

Money!  He was so excited. In fact...

About a month before his birthday, Zach told me that he wanted a dollar cake.
"You mean a cake that looks like a dollar?"  He looked at me like I was crazy for not understanding. "Yes, a dollar cake."  It took a few weeks before I realized that he wanted a dollar cake so he would get money for his birthday.

Thank you, to his grandparents, for the money!  (And other gifts.)  He's very happy.

His family gifts were the Lego Toy Story sets.  So fun. We stayed up until after 11 that night, putting them all together.  Their bedroom has been taken over by the whole Roundup gang, plus Buzz and Zurg. Our boys are crazy about Legos!

After I explained to Zach that having a money cake did not mean that he would get money, he decided he wanted a ZooPal birthday instead. You know, the plates shaped like animals? He wanted to focus on the frog and that's where the cake theme came from. (There might have been a little idea manipulation involved.) He was very happy with his cake. I didn't realize it was going to be bigger than he is!

I only took one picture of a ZooPal. Greg got the FISH ZooPal.

(All day the kids went around singing "Oink Oink, ZooPals. Buzz Buzz, ZooPals.  Ribbit ribbit, ZooPals. They make eating fun!" Now every time you see the commercial you'll think of us.)

I took this picture because Greg was doing very well with his spoon. I guess cake is more motivating than vegetables.

Zach wanted to have a treasure hunt like Jonathan's.  I didn't have to say yes, but I had fun the first time and wanted to do it again. This time we included a fake treasure halfway through. (Ben's idea.) When they dug it up, it was just a can of tuna fish with the next clue taped to it.  "But I don't like tuna fish!" Boy were we funny!

A few clues later, Zach dug up the REAL treasure. It was hidden behind the raspberries.  A treasure box full of giant smarties and gummi hamburgers! Zach was happy so it was a success.

The kids always love it AFTER a party because they get to throw the balloons over the rail and down the stairs.

And I think I get to take a break from birthday parties now.  Yes?

Happy Birthday, Zachary! You are a super funny little man! We love you!

Did you make that cake? Please tell me you didn't make that cake. It's adorable. Let me just say there will be no posting of birthday cakes I've made, on my blog, ever.

We did the same cake for Carter's 3rd birthday (although yours looks ALOT better than the one we made!)I LOVED treasure hunts as a kid. Zach won't ever forget this birthday. So fun.

Yes I made the cake. It only looks impressive because it's BIG. If you saw it up close, the frosting work was actually pretty sloppy. I got impatient. =o) And if I took a picture from the opposite side the frog would be a little naked because I ran out of frosting and didn't want to make more. Does that make you feel any better? The only part that might have been talent on my part was making the eyes look right - I learned to do eyes in a painting class when I was 12. Haha.

Heather - did you post about Carter's? I'll have to look. Maybe I subconsciously copied you? I just did a Bing for "frog cake" and let Zach choose.

Wendy, please post yours. We're not competing, are we? Although I might have won a prize for the messiest kitchen an hour before the party. =o)

Treasure hunts are the best and always popular with the kids. And as always your cakes are awesome! What fun birthdays your kids get to have!
