Princess Turns Five

I can't believe Nicole is five now! But here she is, all grown up. "My 5th Birthday" is the last section in her baby book. Does this mean she's not my baby girl anymore? The next thing I know, kindergarten will be stealing her from me.

You might recognize Nicole's pretty pink princess dress. This is the third year she's worn it for her birthday. The first year it was too big but she wore it for her Princess Castle party. The second year it fit perfectly and she looked just like her Barbie Princess cake.  This year it's getting a little snug, but she still wanted to wear it for her Princess Peach theme. If you're not familiar with Princess Peach, this might help:

Yes, Princess Peach is Mario's princess - the one he always has to save. The ultimate damsel in distress.

(Side note: This cake required more frosting colors than what I've done before. Augh. But - I found this really cool way to use piping bags but without all the clean-up mess. It worked! It saved me SO much time and supplies. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QxE-pnqmsE0 )

Back to Nicole. We took lots of pictures of her in her pretty birthday dress (again).  We had a lot of fun.

Maybe too much fun?

Time for presents. This year Jonathan and Zach each bought Nicole something for her birthday. They were certain they could keep it a secret but I'm pretty sure they didn't. Nicole said as she opened the first one, "Jonathan, I bet these are the earrings you bought for me! I hope they match the ring that Zach is giving me."

Nicole is a very gracious gift-opener. It's fun to watch her work. Thank you for her gifts! She was delighted with lots of girly stuff.

I LOVE this picture. A captured smile. Even though Nicole always jumps at the chance to pose for the camera, my favorite pictures are when she's just naturally happy and doesn't know I'm watching. I also love that there's wrapping paper stuck to her dress. Are we SURE we can't keep her little forever?

The best time of the party - It's time for cake!

Nicole is such a joy in our life. We love her to pieces. I bet she made a good wish!

Wow! I am SO using the frosting bags tip. Looks tons easier, and clean up is such a pain normally, that throwing away a little saran wrap instead of messing with a greasy colored mess of frosting won't phase me one bit!

What a pretty little princess she is! You are so talented at making cakes :) I think there isn't really anything that you can't do well! I think it is so fun when the other kids give presents too.
