Ice Skating

Just like we promised, here are the pictures of our ice skating adventure! It was the first time our kids had ever ice skated, and we had the whole place to ourselves.  Our view was gorgeous and the weather was perfect.  We really couldn't have asked for a better setting.

We started out by steadying ourselves on the railing. Eventually we all got brave enough to venture off.

Ben gave a few "rides" back and forth to help Nicole get comfortable on her skates. She is a good listener and quick learner!

Jonathan insisted on figuring it out his own way and did great.

I'd like to say that I was helpful teaching the kids too, but most of the time when they came near me I quickly said "Don't touch me! We'll both fall down!"  (In this picture we're not moving.)

I did get to where I could spin in a circle though, like I used to on my roller skates. As long as nobody came near me.

Greg was terrified of the ice. Ben finally coaxed him out there and kept him on his feet. I have no idea how. There were times when Greg looked like dead weight being pulled along. But he had a smile on his face, and with Greg that's all that matters.

The lodge was so pretty in the background!  Nicole wanted this picture. I'm not sure where Zach was.  He tended to stay near the railing. We can see Zach's orange shirt in the background of a lot of the pictures above. He struggled on his skates but kept insisting that he was okay and having fun.  He is a trooper.

Nicole got really steady on her own and she was so fun to watch.  She held her arms out for balance and her shirt flowed behind her, so it kept reminding me of seeing figure skaters on TV. We have several video clips of her smiling from ear to ear.

The kids pointed out the Sun Valley logo everywhere we went around the resort. I bet you didn't stop and think how hard it was to get this pose with four kids on skates.

Oops! And now for the best part - Here's a short video clip of the kids, um, skating:

(They think it's hilarious so it's okay to laugh.)

We may not end up with any pro skaters in the family, but we sure had a great time at the Sun Valley rink!
