Baby Bites

Gregory and I have a daily face painting ritual.

Don't be fooled by that smile - he doesn't eat any of it! For two months now I've been trying to teach him to swallow "solids." He just doesn't get it. He acts like he's going to swallow, but eventually the food plops back out again.

I have tried everything I can think of. Greg WANTS to eat, he really does. Yesterday his doctor said that maybe he just has a hard time with liquidy foods. You think?
On my way home, I stopped at the store to buy some more baby face paint, when I saw:
Baby Mum-Mums?

A dissolving rice rusk. (What's a rusk? I have no clue.)But they've been "used in the Orient for over a century as baby's first snack." Do I trust the box? Would you? I shook the box and it didn't explode so I decided to buy it.

At home I didn't even put the groceries away first. I opened the box, expecting some kind of teething biscuit. Nope, more like styrofoam. Individually wrapped styrofoam. Mmmm.
Gregory cautiously inserted it into his mouth. Nibbled, took it out and looked at it, nibbled some more. Giggled. Nibble, nibble, nibble.
And then he gobbled it down.

He ate! He ate! See the pieces mushed on his face and bib? He ate those too! A rusk for lunch and a rusk for dinner. Maybe he's part Oriental. Thank you Baby Mum-Mums!

I will continue trying to feed Greg other foods of course, but I'm so relieved that he can at least eat something in the meantime.
Hooray for Gregory!

He is a doll. I'm glad for the proof of pictures. And, don't you wish you could be a pediatrician and get paid to make your best guess all day long? Looks like it worked though. Go solid food!

I love reading your post. You are a great writer. And that is funny to hear Mum mums was the answer. I need to get Aubrey going on solids but maybe I should just skip to the wafers. It sure looks a lot cleaner.

Clara loves those rice rusk things a lot too! I dread the baby food stage because it seems like you spend more time convincing your child to eat than they actually spend eating.

We love those Mum mums. We tried them with Ethan too and he'd go through them. They have different flavors too!! Funny name for a food but it works. And no I don't know what rusks are either.

I'm glad you got some food in him. I thought about getting some similar thing for Baby Dhis but... I didn't. Kinda forgot.

BTW, do you mean, he may be part Asian?

Hmm I don't know what is politically or geographically correct. I just know that the box said "used in the Orient" so I thought Oriental was appropriate. Sorry if I offended anyone. =o)

I just noticed you named your child after the name with the least votes in your poll. Rebel!
