Last week was the Cassia County Fair and the boys were excited to enter some projects again this year. They did great! Each boy entered three items:
Jonathan made a Marble Maze for the toy category. It's made of straws that are glued in a box. We've had a lot of fun playing with it!
I was really impressed with Jonathan's Lego Robot. I should have taken a better picture. He did it all himself (no kit) and it got 2nd place. There were a bunch of Lego entries this year so we were really excited.
His third entry was a card he made for his baby brother. I guess it's not a very manly thing to make (sorry, he watches his mom!) but he did a very good job stamping and coloring it. I was touched that he wanted to make such a sweet card. He won my vote!
Zach's first project was a wooden train that he painted and glued together from a kit. He's a very precise painter. He applied the stickers very well too. He's happy to have it back from the fair so he can play with it now.
Then his paper plate Caterpillar was a big hit! He got a blue ribbon on it for paper crafts. And the yellow rosette for being the 3rd best out of all the categories in his age group. (Too bad it lost one of its antenna buttons on the way home!)
Zach's third project was a red Lego Snake. He designed it after one of his favorite toys named "Snakey." Again, 2nd place is really impressive out of how many Lego entries there were for his age group!
My big project for the fair was the rag quilt I made for our upcoming baby boy. I was really excited that it got a blue ribbon! (And I'm even more excited that I'll get to put a cute baby on it in a few weeks.) Sewing has been a good activity for me lately. Much better on the belly than gardening!
I decided at the last minute to enter the Easter dress I made for Nicole. It won a red ribbon and I was surprised because there were a lot of other cute dresses this year. Nicole is very proud of herself for winning a ribbon and she keeps asking me about her prize money.
To the left of the dress, pretend that you can see a big plate of prize-winning raspberries! They won a blue ribbon and the red rosette - 2nd best of all fruit entries. We've had a bumper crop of raspberries this year. Mmmm. And pretend that on the right you see some golden snap beans that earned red. (They weren't very pretty after being displayed for a week.)
And while we're pretending, we can also pretend that I got these burp cloths and small blanket done in time for the fair. I didn't though. I finished them just last night. But I love how they turned out and wanted to show them anyway. At least they're done in time for the baby!
Thanks for taking the time to look at our creative projects for the summer. I've had a lot of fun making things with the boys, and Nicole is already planning out her projects for next year when she's old enough. We love the county fair!
