I just made this clock for the boys' room. I went to take a picture of it and realized I need to add more navy to the room to make it work. Anyone have great ideas on how to do this? I like things to look simple and uncluttered, but bare walls are not quite enough! Here are some more pictures of their room:
Here's the clock in its present setting. I also just painted their J and Z blue. I'm sure the boys won't want their baby pictures up when they're teenagers but we like it this way for now. We just need the rest of the room to match!

We don't want to change the bedding or their names. Last year I sent Ben to the store to get navy blue bedding and this is what he brought back. We love the islandy-feel of the colors. I think it will work to add in the navy but I'm not sure how to do that. (A navy palm tree?)
I am mostly focusing on the bare walls above the beds. It's bigger than it looks in the picture. But here's the catch: (1) We don't want to paint. (2) I won't hang heavy things that can fall on them. (3) I want to spend very little on it, which probably excludes vinyl stickers (I know you were all thinking it!). Is there some kind of design I could cut out of paper or fabric? What other ideas are there? Or maybe it's just fine how it is. I'd like some input, from YOU please. Thanks!
p.s. Are you wondering why I painted the clock navy in the first place? Because I wanted to! It's my excuse to add darker blue to their room. Go BYU!
p.p.s. I added a new survey in my right margin! It's not about anything blue.

I love the bedding Ben got! Where did he get it? Carter is still in his crib (yes I know he is over 3 now) and we are thinking it is TIME to get him into a bed. Your beds are really cute too! Again, I would like to know where you got them. As for the navy blue, what about a wallpaper border? They have some cute kid ones that I have seen. Other than that I have nothing for you!! I think it looks good how it is anyway. Good luck!
About the bedding:
It IS cute, but… does Ben know it’s not navy blue? He might be color-blind and stripe-blind. He should get that checked.
On to your query:
No paint, no hangings, and no dollars. Hmmm… you may need to watch a few HGTV decorating shows.
Here are some ideas off the top of my head. Maybe they will trigger some of your own ideas.
1- Put the framed baby photos into 11x14 frames and then add 8x10 navy blue photo mattes.
2- I can’t tell what the names above their beds are made of. (Wood? Plastic?) You may be able to put them on navy blue rectangles of a material (paper, plastic, plywood) that you feel is safe to hang there. Or paint rectangles under the names.
3- Don’t put their comforters over their pillows. Get navy blue pillowcases and fold the comforters down to reveal them or put the pillows over the comforter, or prop the pillows up against the headboard.
4- A navy rug in between the beds.
5- Paint a wide stripe about chair-rail height or along the top of the wall. (or Heather's wallpaper border suggestion)
6- Some people hang fabric up on walls (like wallpaper) using starch, but I’ve never done it. Supposedly it is removable.
7- Painting or changing the handles on their dressers. Or leave the handles as they are and paint the front of the dresser drawers navy blue.
8- Navy valance above the window.
9- A long narrow rectangle navy blue paper with their handprints in white paint. Hang on the wall running long-ways to their beds.
10- Nightstand in between their beds and a navy blue lamp.
Just ideas. Whatever you do, pick the biggest impact item first, otherwise, you’ll end up spending money and time and still feel like the room is incomplete.
If anything, this will teach you not to create one item and then try to work around it!
whew! That was a long comment; I should just have emailed you.
Also... Have you thought about Wallies? They usually come 25 decals for about $10 (or cheaper sometimes on eBay).
You are GOOD! Those were a lot of ideas to think about. I have some favorites that I will probably try.
I actually do watch HGTV quite regularly, that's my problem. =o) Actually on our network it is DIY, which I LOVE.
You're going to laugh at me. The names above their bed are paper. I handcut them out of scrapbook paper and laminated them. They're stuck on with super putty. Let's see those try to knock out my kids during an earthquake!
I hope other people won't be afraid to comment since you used all the good ideas. =o)
Oh. Oops.
I'll just say it for everyone else:
"COMMENT HOG!"
Actually I meant that as a compliment. Thanks for the great ideas!
I have a tendency to be a comment hog myself, but I also think that the more comments the better. Sorry to anyone who disagrees!
I love the bedspread. I also need some MAJOR help with decorating. It just isn't my thang! I watch HDTV and it leaves me with too many ideas and overwhelmed. Adhis, did you want to come over here and help me. Heather, Carma is still in her crib and she is the same age as your boy. hahaha I thought we were the only ones with a 3 year old in a crib.
Cough, cough...paint...cough cough. Just kidding. I know how Ben feels about that. It looks cute, and WOW I think Adhis might watch a little bit too much HGTV. :) Those were some great ideas though.
*I* don't know how Ben feels about paint, and now I'm curious. How DOES Ben feel about paint?
I WISH I could watch HGTV! Alas, Dave and I are two of those weirdos who don't have cable. We have a honkin' huge TV, but no cable... All the better to feel like we're actually AT the Antique Roadshow. ;)
It's funny about the bedspreads. They look just like the striped quilts Ben had on his bed at age 3-Deja Vu? Later he moved on to Snoopy decor. I would get bulletin boards out of cork at walmart. Then use the kids art work to put everywhere. Forget money...soon the boys will be howling at the moon for action figures curtians, bedspreads, wall posters. Save your investment. They are little now. In 2 years they will want to decorate their own room. It won't be hgtv...but they will love it. I would add a table and 2 chairs so they can read and do homework and leave space sleep overs. Ceilings are great for storing kites and kites are cheap and cute decor too. A really big God loves you poster is always nice. Oh, NOW who is the comment hog? WHO'S YOUR MOMMY?!
